NEWS ON THE
LATE DAVEY ALLISON
Looking back over
the trials of a racing legend

HUEYTOWN, Ala. -- I went back to Hueytown, Ala. two
weeks ago to shoot a feature on Bobby Allison
for TNT Sports. I chose to drive to the small
town outside of Birmingham so that I could collect my thoughts for what I
was anticipating being one of the most emotionally difficult assignments I
would ever have. I was about to spend the day with my late husband's
parents, with whom I both love and admire very much.

No. 28
still means a lot to Alabama fans
By DAVID POOLE
The Charlotte Observer
"You
definitely sense it when you come to this part of the country," Rudd
said. "…The old Alabama Gang really is gone. The only piece of
history or bragging rights they got to hang onto in this sport is that 28
team, the Davey Allison legacy. They cling to it and I think whoever is in
that car, there's a little extra pressure to make sure that car does well,
especially in this part of the country." http://thatsracing.com/00/1015/1015poole.htm

At Age 9, Robbie
Allison Wants to Be a Racer
By TERESA M.
WALKER
Ap Sports Writer
BRENTWOOD, Tenn. -- Liz Allison watched her
9-year-old son, Robbie, crash the first time out, and wondered if he'd still
want to be a racer.
"He had a neck brace on, and
his mouth was all smooshed up," she said of the aftermath. "He had
tears streaming out of his eyes. He said, `Mom, I'm scared.' Five minutes
later, it was, `Will you let me race again?' "
After the son of late racing star Davey Allison crashed while warming up for
his first race earlier this month, his mother decided a go-slow approach
might be best. Then, she says, it will be his decision

Book by Davey
Allison's widow tells of young racer's life, death
10/13/00
CLYDE BOLTON
News staff writer
Davey Allison's smile dominates the
cover of the book. He looks thoughtful but a tad impish. He peers forward
and upward, as to the future.Unfortunately, there would be little future
left for the young Hueytown racer when he was photographed in his Robert
Yates Racing livery. He was fatally injured when the helicopter he was
piloting crashed on July 12, 1993. He was 32.

BIG NEWS!
Bobby and Judy remarry after four years of
divorce !
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Veteran race car driver Bobby Allison and his former wife,
Judy, have remarried four years after they divorced during a time of tragedy for the
family. The divorce followed the deaths of their sons, drivers Clifford Allison and Davey
Allison. Bobby Allison said divorce is common after such a tragedy. "We weren't able
to dodge that bullet," he said. Judy Allison said the couple needed time to get over
the deaths of their sons. Bobby Allison has been living in Hueytown, a suburb of
Birmingham, and Judy Allison in Mooresville, N.C. They reunited recently to help the Petty
family after the death of Adam Petty in a racing accident. Adam Petty was the son of racer
Kyle Petty and the grandson of NASCAR legend Richard Petty. "It's ironic that a
tragedy presented the opportunity for us to, first of all, speak, and then to put our
feelings aside to help someone else," Bobby Allison told The Birmingham News in a
story Thursday. Recently, Bobby and Judy Allison became husband and wife for the second
time, repeating the vows they first said on Feb. 20, 1960. Tragedy for the Allisons first
hit in 1988 when Bobby Allison was seriously injured in a crash at the Pocono, Pa., track,
ending his racing career. In 1992, Clifford Allison was killed in a wreck during a
practice session at a Michigan track. In 1993, Davey Allison, at the time one of NASCAR's
top drivers, suffered fatal injuries in a helicopter accident at Talladega Superspeedway.
"We needed the four years to heal," Bobby Allison said. "Early on we didn't
support each other in the healing process. I went in one direction and she went in
another."

Hall
of Fame finally tugs at Davey Allison
By DAVID POOLE
The Charlotte Observer
TALLADEGA,
Ala. -- Alabama doesn't need a ceremony to remember Davey
Allison. Fans from this state don't need
to come to Talladega Superspeedway to remember him, even though this
gigantic facility played such a major role in his life.

Remembering Davey
By Matt McLaughlin
SpeedFX
If there was ever a
child born to be a race car driver, it was Davey Allison. If there was
ever a race car driver who never forgot his roots, and always had a few
moments to sign an autograph, answer of a question or smile for a photo
with a fan, it was Davey Allison. And if there was ever a hero of the
sport who left us too soon, it was Davey Allison.

His Last Lap
The Story of
Davey Allison
His helicopter was only a foot from landing
safely at his home track of Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama. He and a
buddy had flown there from Hueytown, sixty miles away, to watch a friend
test a car. Suddenly, the helicopter shot up 25 feet into the air. It
spun counterclockwise, rolled and crashed. Its tail rotor struck a fence
on the way down. The pilot sustained massive head injuries. For 16 hours
he hung between life and death. His legion of fans held a constant
vigil--moment by moment, hour by hour--hoping to hear some good news. It
never came. Davey Allison, only 32 years old, died on July 13, 1993.
